Liefdesbriewe is a moving and timeless drama about the lifelong relationship between two characters, Melissa and André. Through a series of letters, cards and notes they write over five decades, the sometimes lovers, sometimes friends reveal their deepest thoughts, dreams and feelings. They communicate with each other through anxious hostel experiences, European adventures, failed marriages and the highs and lows of their careers. The play is a tragicomic exploration of lost opportunities, unspoken love and the intricate friendship that binds them together forever. Arnold Vosloo and Elzabé Zietsman have known each other for 43 years. They met on Elzabé’s birthday in 1981: he a first-year student and she a final-year student. They were last on stage together in 1982, in Molière’s farce Sganarelle.
