Magda Louw, the chatterbox who says exactly what she thinks, talks about the value and madness of words. From laughter and sorrow in your mother tongue, to the things we sometimes say that should have remained just a thought. She has something to say about the daily expressions, sayings and idioms with which we sometimes defuse situations, try to win arguments and justify behaviour. From sticking her head in a beehive to getting out of the woods, she plays open cards without buttering anyone up. Magda cannot give a lesson in literature, but what she does offer is a lesson in kletterkunde (“chatteriture”). She asks the questions that she wonders about herself: In what language do you dream? Where do certain sayings come from and what to do when you and your partner and/or children speak different versions of the same language?
