The husband, a sculptor, carves a baby out of wood for his wife every year, eventually making her 27 children out of wood. To her, they are not wooden dolls, but children of flesh and blood. After her husband\u2019s death, some of his other sculptures are donated to the town\u2019s museum. The story unfolds when museum workers want to take the woman\u2019s \u201cchildren\u201d from her too. Universal themes like childlessness, a parent\u2019s love, the love between a man and woman, as well as age, and dementia, are addressed - always against the backdrop of hope and light.
