Eight dialogues produced after the first Proscenium Drama Competition in 2024 will be presented at the KKNK as part of the Youth Arts Festival. Loerie & Lizzy se Bunk-transaksie<\/em><\/strong> with Alison Jegels (Pioneer School) and Cara Erwee (Charlie Hofmeyr High School), written by Karli Heine and directed by Derek Daly (Afrikaans).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Droomkamer<\/em><\/strong> with Leighmen Marshall (Swartland High School) and Luca Human (Curro Durbanville), written by Ilne Fourie and directed by Margit Meyer-R\u00f6denbeck (Afrikaans).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Utopia<\/em><\/strong> with Keanon Brandt and Bronwynne Neer (Bernadino Heights High School), written by Alea Hanekom and directed by Lluwellyn Edas (Afrikaans).<\/p>\n\n\n\n Interstellar<\/em><\/strong> with Darren Cloete (Jan van Riebeeck High School) and Thomas Janisch (Parklands High School), written by Mikyall Harris and directed by Lee-Ann van Rooi (English and Afrikaans).<\/p>\n\n\n\n In 2024, the Proscenium Drama Competition received 647 entries and after the preliminary rounds, 70 candidates were selected to participate in the final rounds in Cape Town. Here, candidates competed over four rounds to determine the winners. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) commissioned 15 writers to write dialogues that were suitable for young actors and for use in the classroom. During the final rounds of the Proscenium Drama Competition, a team from the WCED selected actors to perform the dialogues, under the guidance of several professional directors. The texts are in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa and cover a wide range of topics that appeal to a diverse audience of all ages.
