Karoo Kaarte-staptoer

WITH tour guides Melikhaya Blou, Shandré Harris, Theo Witbooi and Glenisha Tarentaal CURATOR Vaughn Sadie

A KKNK project, supported by the NLC, Jannie Mouton Foundation, Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

The Karoo Kaarte app continues to expand and evolve, offering an interactive way to experience the rich oral histories of Oudtshoorn. This year, the app features exciting new stories, combining self-guided tours with vibrant memories and personal anecdotes collected from residents. The app remains a living archive, capturing childhood memories and community stories about the public spaces of Oudtshoorn. Popular guided tours explore hidden gems and familiar sites in Bongolethu, “Ou Kas”, “Die Laeveld”, and Oudtshoorn CBD. Each tour is a unique journey, where personal stories are intertwined with the memories of the queer community of Oudtshoorn, offering festivalgoers a fresh perspective on these beloved neighbourhoods. The audience resonates with a tour of people’s stories rather than just the town’s history. This distinctive approach draws visitors to Oudtshoorn and provides locals with engaging, educational insights into their hometown.
