Die Swartmerrie

WITH Theo Witbooi, Chantell Phillipus and Jermaine Bruintjies SCRIPT Tiffany Saterdaght and Neil Coppen DIRECTOR Neil Coppen SET AND COSTUME DESIGN Zietske Saaiman STAGE MANAGER Tiffany Saterdaght PRODUCER KKNK's Karoo Kaarte

A KKNK project, supported by the NLC, Jannie Mouton Foundation, Het Jan Marais Nationale Fonds and the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.

Set against the evocative backdrop of Oudtshoorn’s corroding train tracks and abandoned platform, Die Swartmerrie tells the poignant story of Simon “Tjoekepaf” Baadjies, who waits on the tracks, hoping for the return of someone he once loved. An old friend joins him to bid farewell. In this intense production, the characters grapple with haunting memories and unspoken regrets. The Karoo dialect of their Afrikaans adds warmth and intimacy, transforming their exchanges into a love language that resonates deeply with audiences. Die Swartmerrie is a profound meditation on time, loss, and resilience.

Benoem vir ses Kanna-pryse by die KKNK en bekroon met die Kanna vir beste debuutwerk en beste regie (2024).
