In 2024, the Proscenium Drama Competition received 647 entries and after the preliminary rounds, 70 candidates were selected to participate in the final rounds in Cape Town. Here, candidates competed over four rounds to determine the winners. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) commissioned 15 writers to write dialogues that were suitable for young actors and for use in the classroom. During the final rounds of the Proscenium Drama Competition, a team from the WCED selected actors to perform the dialogues, under the guidance of several professional directors. The texts are in Afrikaans, English and Xhosa and cover a wide range of topics that appeal to a diverse audience of all ages. This production is a showcase of exciting new texts and the actors of tomorrow.
