Middel/Middle

WITH Aidan Davies and Lukhona Mkunyana SCRIPT Aidan Davies and Lukhona Mkunyana CHOREOGRAPHY Estelle Olivier FACILITATOR Amelda Brand

Through use of non-verbal communication, particularly using gibberish and movement, Middel aims to illustrate how connection is established where words fail. It explores themes of a power-struggle, relationships, and conflict, all driven by an unspoken love. North (the Great) and South (the Grateful) engage in first contact with one another and their world. What ensues is chaos, confusion and ridiculous efforts to sabotage each other. As North attempts to assert his dominance, South subverts his efforts in a misguided attempt to impress him. The two characters must learn to understand and respect each other’s differences, whilst remaining true to themselves. Together, they explore facets of interpersonal relationships in a fun and dynamic way. The work is focused on portraying otherwise difficult conflicts between individuals in a palatable format for younger audiences.
