When his younger brother Schalk suddenly dies, Louw returns to his family’s smallholding from London. Their father, Gert, now lives alone on the smallholding. Louw hasn’t been home in nine years and is surprised to see how dilapidated it is. Old wounds are opened as they try to avoid the truth, shift blame, test and manipulate each other, find common ground and avoid their family history. But the truth simmers inside an old white stinkwood tree – a decades long witness to everything that has happened on this family plot and a constant reminder of Amanda, wife and mother, who passed 25 years ago. A story about a family, a tree, ground, deep-seated pain, and the finality (or not) of death. A story about a father and son who must account for their past, and struggle to find each other.
